How to check a website’s traffic for free

What the numbers mean, what they leave out, and how to turn a competitor’s traffic into your next articles.

What this website traffic checker measures

Enter any domain and the checker estimates how many visitors that site gets from Google’s organic results each month, in the country you pick. Alongside the traffic figure you see how many keywords the site ranks for, how many of them reach page one, and what that traffic is worth.

Below the totals, two short lists show where the traffic comes from: the five keywords sending the most visits and the five pages earning them.

  • Organic traffic: estimated monthly visits from Google search.
  • Organic keywords: searches where the site ranks in the top 100.
  • Top 10 rankings: keywords on page one, with the top 3 count underneath.
  • Traffic value: what the same visits would cost as Google Ads clicks.

How the traffic estimate is calculated

No one outside a company can see its analytics, so every traffic checker works from search data instead. For each keyword a site ranks for, we take the keyword’s monthly search volume and multiply it by the share of clicks a result usually gets at that position. Adding those clicks up across every ranking keyword gives the monthly organic traffic estimate.

Rankings and search volumes come from Google search data for the selected country and refresh about once a month. Read the result as an order of magnitude: it is reliable for comparing sites and spotting trends, less so as an exact visitor count.

Website visitors vs. organic search traffic

If you came here looking for a website visitor checker, keep in mind what the estimate covers. It counts visits from Google’s organic results only. Direct visits, social media, email, referral links and paid ads are not included, so a well-known brand or a site with a big newsletter can get far more visitors in total than its organic estimate shows.

For blogs, content sites and most online stores, organic search is one of the largest traffic channels, which makes the estimate a useful proxy for reach. For your own site, Google Search Console and your analytics remain the source of truth. Use this checker to size up everyone else.

Compare two sites’ traffic side by side

Add a second domain in the Compare with field to see both snapshots next to each other. Then look past the headline number:

  • Keywords vs. traffic: many keywords with little traffic means wide but shallow rankings. Few keywords with a lot of traffic means a handful of pages carry the site.
  • Top 3 rankings: the first three results take most of the clicks, so the site with more top 3 positions often wins with fewer keywords.
  • Traffic value: a high value on modest traffic means the site ranks for commercial searches that advertisers pay for.
  • Top pages: the formats that earn traffic, such as guides, comparisons, tools or category pages, show you what to build.

Turn a competitor’s traffic into a content plan

A competitor’s top keywords and top pages are a shortlist of topics that already work in your market. Open each ranking page, note its format and depth, and plan a page that answers the same search better.

To go further, list every keyword a rival ranks for with the competitor keyword finder, or run a competitor analysis with your own domain to find the keywords they rank for that you don’t. Before you commit to a keyword, check its search volume and difficulty with the keyword generator.

FAQ

Website traffic checker questions

Is this website traffic checker free?

Yes. You can check a website’s traffic without an account or a credit card. Free checks reset every day, and each one can include a second domain to compare at no extra cost.

How accurate are website traffic estimates?

They are estimates built from rankings, search volumes and typical click-through rates, not from the site’s own analytics. Expect the right order of magnitude rather than an exact figure. They are most useful for comparing sites against each other, because every site is measured the same way.

Can I see how many visitors a website gets in total?

Not from public data. This checker estimates visits from Google’s organic results, the part of a site’s traffic that can be measured from the outside. Direct, social, email, referral and paid visits only show up in the site owner’s analytics.

Can I check the traffic of any website?

Any public domain works, including your competitors. Pick the country you care about, since a site can get a lot of traffic in one market and almost none in another. Very new or very small sites may show no data until they rank for searches with measurable volume.

What does traffic value mean?

Traffic value is what a site’s organic visits would cost if it bought the same clicks through Google Ads, based on each keyword’s cost per click. A high value means the site ranks for commercial searches that advertisers compete for.

Why is the estimate for my site different from Google Search Console?

Search Console reports your real clicks from Google, while this checker models clicks from rankings and average click-through rates. Branded searches, rich results and seasonality can push the two numbers apart. For your own site, trust Search Console and use the checker to benchmark competitors.

How do I increase my website’s organic traffic?

Publish pages that target the searches your audience makes, aim for the top 3 positions where most clicks go, and keep publishing on a steady schedule. RankBolt writes SEO-ready articles for the keywords you choose and auto-publishes them to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify or Wix.
